In the Last Frontier, we love our furry, finned and feathered friends — and so does the team at Seward’s Alaska SeaLife Center!
This season, Kenai Fjords Tours is partnering with the Alaska SeaLife Center to bring their marine expertise aboard select Resurrection Bay tours. Before we set sail, the SeaLife Center team shared a few fun wildlife facts as a sneak peek:
“Puffins flap their wings about 400 times a minute to stay in flight. If they’ve eaten a bit too much, this still might not be enough power — you may see a puffin skip off the water.”— Katelyn Cadoret, education specialist
“Sea otters have a special fold of skin under their arms that creates a little pocket where they can stash food while diving. They sometimes even use the pocket to hide favorite objects, like rocks they use to crack open their food.” — Darin Trobaugh, Learning Specialist
“Dall’s porpoises are considered the largest and fastest swimmers among small cetaceans, reaching speeds of 34 miles per hour over short distances. I’m still trying to get a good picture!” — Shana Kent, learning engagement manager
Join the Alaska SeaLife Center on special editions of the Resurrection Bay Tour in 2025 — departing every other Thursday on June 12 and 26, and weekly beginning July 10.
